Laura Dearing Elementary School Replacement

As Roche Constructors’ first CMAR project with the Clark County School District, the scope of work for the Laura Dearing Elementary School Replacement included the abatement and demolition of the existing elementary and the construction of a new 70,211-square-foot school on the 7.8-acre site. Construction also included the renovation and upgrade of an existing classroom building that remained on the campus.
Project Description
Constructed on a load-bearing spread footing foundation system with a steel frame/composite slab and masonry load-bearing steel joist building frame system, the two-story school features a glazed curtain wall system and exposed masonry. To help with energy costs, the school has a photovoltaic energy system. The finished building is home to a multipurpose room with a platform for stage performances, full service kitchen, library and media space, physical education room, music classroom, art room, 27 traditional classrooms, one early childhood classroom, two pre-kindergarten classrooms, staff/administrative office space, restrooms, support rooms, and office spaces. The library/media center features large storefront windows providing maximum daylighting.
The exterior of the school has a large entry canopy and a covered courtyard area with an outdoor learning center. There is a stone amphitheater with new garden planters and relocated site furnishings from the existing school.
Roche’s scope of work included site development consisting of synthetic turf playing fields for general elementary school play, off-site roadway improvements including new street flashers and sidewalk/ramp replacements, utilities, parking lot paving, site lighting, and landscaping.
