Thomas J. Roche
President & CEO
Tom Roche is the President and Chief Executive Officer for Roche Constructors. As the CEO, Tom’s primary role is to provide leadership and overall direction for the company. Additionally, he formulates plans and policies to achieve corporate objectives and fulfills Roche’s commitment to its employees, clients, and communities. His professional affiliations include Associated Builders & Contractors, International Council of Shopping Centers, and Retail Contractors Association.
Tom is a lifelong resident of Greeley, Colorado, where he and his wife Faith raised three sons – Patrick, A.J., and Thomas. Tom and Faith now enjoy spending time with their five grandchildren. Away from work, Tom is a member of the City of Greeley Police Department Chief’s Advisory Committee and participates in Pittsburg State University’s School of Construction Leadership Council. He is a founding board member of Salida del Sol Academy and an honorary lifetime member of the University Schools Board of Governors. He is also the founder of the P.B. Roche Memorial Baseball Training Facility. Tom is a Colorado Rockies fan, and in his free time, he enjoys biking and spending time outdoors.
Vice President of Operations
Carlin Nafziger is the Vice President of Operations for Roche Constructors. He started at Roche in 1986 after receiving encouragement from his stepfather to pursue a career in the construction industry. As the VP of Operations, Carlin provides high-level oversight of the operations and project management departments. During his tenure with Roche, Carlin has overseen the construction of $2 billion worth of projects across various market sectors. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and holds numerous safety and stormwater certifications.
Originally from Pettisville, Ohio, Carlin is now a resident of Longmont, Colorado, along with his wife Lisa, his stepdaughter Alyssa, his son Jarrett, and his daughter Taylor. The family also includes two small dogs, Ziggy and Marley. In his free time, Carlin enjoys outdoor family activities like camping and watching the Denver Broncos. Although he has given up motocross, he still loves to ride dirt bikes whenever possible.
Sandra L. Roche
Vice President/General Counsel
Sandra Roche is the Vice President/General Counsel for Roche Constructors. With Roche since 1994, her role includes providing legal advice to all levels of the management team; risk assessment; contract negotiations; regulatory compliance; and creating solutions to accomplish objectives, resolve disputes, and preserve relationships. Sandra’s professional affiliations include the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, U.S. Green Building Council, United Way Women’s Leadership Council, the President’s Advisory Council for Nevada State College, and the National Association of Women Business Owners of Southern Nevada. She is also the 2019 Mountain West regional vice chair for Associated Builders and Contractors and serves on the Nevada OSHA Review Board.
Sandra grew up in Downey, California, and currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. Outside of the office, Sandra has a dog named Tucker and three cats named Millie, Lillie, and Max. In her free time, she enjoys spending time in the mountains, traveling, and reading. Sandra’s favorite team to cheer on is the Denver Broncos.
Vice President of Finance/Chief Financial Officer
Matt Notter is the Vice President of Finance/Chief Financial Officer for Roche Constructors. He started at Roche as a senior accountant in 2008 after earning his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Wyoming. As the CFO, Matt’s primary role is to provide oversight and leadership of the company’s accounting, IT, finance, human resources, and field equipment needs. Matt is a Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP) and is a member of the Construction Financial Management Association and Institute of Management Accountants.
Originally from Rapid City, South Dakota, Matt and his wife Emily now call Greeley, Colorado, their home alongside their two dogs, Zoey and Jenny. Matt enjoys home improvement projects, playing basketball and softball, hiking, biking, and trail running. When he’s not rooting on the Denver Broncos during football season, he relaxes by enjoying some of Colorado’s amazing beer selection.
Valorie S. Martensen
Vice President, RocheSelect
Valorie Martensen started with Roche as a receptionist 33 years ago. Not coming from a construction background, she used a construction dictionary that she kept next to her phone so when she was taking messages she had a resource for construction terms complete with definitions and pictures! She is now a Vice President and currently heads up Roche’s special projects division, RocheSelect. Val is responsible for acquiring new work, working with the estimating team to deliver preconstruction and construction proposals, managing projects, and building and growing business relationships. Her professional affiliations include the Associated Builders & Contractors, Retail Contractors Association, and International Council of Shopping Centers. She is also a member of the Advisory Board at Frontier House and the Construction Management Advisory Board at Aims Community College.
When she’s not at work, Val enjoys spending time with family and friends. She loves to travel, enjoys music, and has been known to run a few 5Ks!
Carla Dusin is the Controller for Roche Constructors. After graduating from the University of Northern Colorado with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, she started her career with Roche and has remained with the company for 40 years. Her primary role is overseeing Roche’s accounting operations by ensuring that all financial data is accurate and performed within the established policies, procedures, and controls. Carla also assists the accounting staff and helps maintain banking, owner, and subcontractor relationships. Her professional affiliations include the Construction Financial Management Association of Colorado and the National Institute of Certified Construction Industry Financial Professionals.
A lifelong resident of Greeley, Colorado, Carla lives with her husband Darrell. She has two daughters, Kelly and Kyle, and three grandchildren – Makenna, Brinley, and Haylee. In her free time, Carla enjoys gardening, cooking, and relaxing by watching Dateline and HGTV. As a Colorado native, Carla is a fan of both the Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos.
Director of Preconstruction
A.J. Roche is the Director of Preconstruction for Roche Constructors. He joined the family business in 2014 with the desire to continue the legacy of the company. After completing his bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Northern Colorado, A.J. earned a master’s degree in energy management from the New York Institute of Technology. His primary responsibilities include identifying new business opportunities. This role requires meeting with potential clients and following up on leads. He works with the local municipalities to navigate entitlements and permitting while also soliciting and selecting design consultants. A.J. is also the president of the Patrick B. Roche Memorial Foundation and a Posse member of the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.
A.J.’s hometown is Las Vegas, Nevada, but he now calls Greeley, Colorado, his home with his two daughters, Tenleigh and Vivienne. A.J. is a Denver Broncos fan and enjoys attending sporting events. When not working, A.J. loves spending time with his kids, golfing, traveling, and binge-watching The Office.
Director of Marketing
Katie Winter is the Director of Marketing for Roche Constructors. She started her career at Roche in 1998 while enrolled at the University of Northern Colorado. Her early days were spent as an intern assisting in a variety of departments. During her final year at UNC, Katie assumed the role of marketing coordinator and earned her bachelor’s degree in marketing. In 2008, she was promoted to her current role as Director of Marketing. This position has a wide range of responsibilities that help her maintain the company’s image while providing guidance and leadership to the marketing department. Her role requires preparing RFQs/RFPs, creating and maintaining marketing collateral, and overseeing the corporate website and social media accounts.
As a resident of Greeley, Colorado, Katie is an avid Rockies fan. At home, she spends time with her two daughters, Adaline and Alyson, as well as their chihuahua Ernie. When she’s not working, Katie loves to read and watch Harry Potter and Marvel movies. During the summer, she enjoys camping, boating, and riding ATVs.
Scott Shanafelt is the General Superintendent for Roche Constructors. Scott started with Roche in 1993 as a project engineer. He also worked as a project superintendent before being promoted to his current position. Scott directly supervises the operations department, which includes providing guidance, training, and expertise to the company’s project engineers and project superintendents. He has an extensive background, knowledge, and experience in all aspects of construction and construction site logistics. He is responsible for monitoring field operations on all projects and ensures work is on schedule, within budget, and complies with technical, safety, and legal requirements. Scott has a bachelor’s degree in construction management from Colorado State University, is a LEED Accredited Professional, and holds various safety certifications.
Born in Three Rivers, Michigan, Scott is a Denver Broncos fan and resident of Windsor, Colorado. At home, he spends time with his wife Karen and their two children, Dylan and Caroline. The family also has an Australian Shepherd named Jesse and a Bichon Frise named Yamin. When he’s not working, Scott enjoys hiking and hunting. His favorite television show is American Pickers.
Senior Project Manager
Greg Lockwood is a Senior Project Manager for Roche Constructors. Greg started with Roche in 1994 as a project engineer and has worked his way up to his current position. Greg not only trains and mentors new project managers, he also acts as a resource to assist Roche’s project managers to ensure the success of the project teams in meeting the expectations of the clients. When running his own projects, Greg is responsible for the overall success of the project and works hard to meet schedules and control costs. He has a bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Cincinnati and is a LEED Accredited Professional. Since joining Roche, he has worked on projects totaling $600 million.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, Greg now resides in Longmont, Colorado. When he is not working, Greg enjoys hiking, camping, and skiing and spending time with his wife Jamie, daughter Nevin, son Quinn, and dog Nimbus. His favorite sports team is the Ohio State Buckeyes.
