Roche’s scope of work for The City of Black Hawk Police Department included remodeling the second-floor evidence storage and restroom areas.
The police department is located in a historic 1920s school building at the top of a hill overlooking old town, Black Hawk. To accommodate the department, the building was renovated years ago. However, many features of the original structure remained. Original features included wood support beams, floor joists, classroom chalkboards, interior windows, and transoms.
The police department had two large locker room-style restrooms and a small evidence room prior to remodeling. The City decided to remodel the space due to an increase in tourism.
To achieve this, Roche reduced the bathroom size and created a larger evidence storage room when remodeling the police department. The new evidence storage room has a state-of-the-art pass-thru locker system to securely deposit evidence and a high-density mobile shelving system. Finishes include carpet flooring, LVT plank flooring, wall base and paint, new doors and frames, and millwork. Roche also re-routed the HVAC ductwork and installed new plumbing and light fixtures. The original chalkboards were left up as part of the building’s history.
