The scope of work for the Aims Community College Allied Health Laboratories Remodel involved demolishing the interior of two existing classrooms in the basement level and constructing two new science laboratory classrooms and a prep room.
The existing concrete floor slab in the classrooms was removed and new underground piping was installed for the new science desks. The science classrooms have eight fume hoods and twelve student desks with gas, water, and electric running to each. The prep room includes a deionized water system and storage rooms for flammables as well as non-combustibles.
Along with the construction of the new classrooms, Roche remodeled a portion of the remaining basement level. This included replacing the corridor and restroom floor tile, relocating the vending machines from the basement to the second-floor lounge, and constructing new offices in the basement level vestibule areas.
The challenge of this project was performing the heavy demolition within the occupied building while not disturbing the students, teachers, and staff.
