Education
At the start of the project, Roche demolished Ames Elementary, which included the abatement of hazardous materials and breaking off the existing caisson foundations.
The 91,920-square-foot, two-story school includes a conventional spread-footing foundation system, masonry building frame system with steel joists at the gymnasium area, and steel frame building system with metal stud framing at the classroom areas. The exterior features patterned architectural masonry and aluminum storefront and curtainwall system along with Kalwall translucent panels, which allows natural light into the gymnasium.
The finished school is home to a gymnasium with fixed bleachers, cafetorium with telescoping bleacher seating, full kitchen, clerestoried media area, office suite, maker space (tech lab), 25 classrooms with breakout areas, special needs student area, and an art area.
Development of the 9-acre site included overlot grading, utilities, parking lot paving, site lighting, landscaping, off-site infrastructure, site retaining walls, stormwater system, and playing fields with play equipment and shade structures, seating areas, and dining furniture.
