Roche Constructors had the amazing opportunity to take charge of the construction of Hannah Marie Brown Elementary School in Las Vegas, Nevada! The new school is helping serve the growing community and was built in honor of the incredible Hannah Marie Brown. Roche Constructors has a long history of constructing quality schools and educational facilities, so we are proud to have been a part of this project.
About Hannah Marie Brown
Hannah Marie Brown is an 82-year-old Las Vegas native. After the birth of her daughter, Hannah committed herself to providing a higher quality life and a good education for her. Ms. Brown retired from a fulfilling career with Delta Airlines in 1995 and set her gaze on community service.
The Hannah Brown Community Development Corporation was established in 1999. In partnership with the Urban Chamber of Commerce, they aim to provide “access and opportunities to students in the local community by achieving a simple goal of empowering them with an education.” (HannahBrownCDC)
That goal has been achieved through the providence of countless scholarships for students pursuing a college education. To date, her foundation has raised over $400,000 in college and trade school scholarships. Brown has secured grants for other new schools, has started tutoring programs, and has served on the board of various Nevada educational foundations.
About Hannah Marie Brown Elementary School
With all of Ms. Brown’s accomplishments and all of her support for the students and the education system of Clark Country, it’s no wonder this project was completed in her honor. Designed to accommodate 719 students, the building helps alleviate crowding at nearby schools.
The completed Hannah Marie Brown Elementary School is a two-story, 90,371-square-foot structure. Constructed on a load-bearing spread footing foundation system with a structural metal stud building frame system, the K-5 school contains 46 state-of-the-art classrooms, a computer lab, and a library.
Site development included playgrounds, shade structures, parking, off-site improvements, and on-site utilities to support the project. The construction process took 19 months to complete, and the total cost of the project was $23 million.
